About Us

Carrfield Training was formed in 2004. Toby Carrington, the owner, started in the property industry in 1986 working as an agent in Brighton & Hove, first for Stiles Horton Ledger (now Stiles Harold Williams) and later went on to become Alliance and Leicester Property Services and later for Fox and Sons (part of Sequence). In 1993 he was approached to start an independent agency called Elliotts Estate Agencies Ltd where he headed up their lettings department as Director. This led to Toby forming his own agency, Carrington Estates, in 1998, which he successfully sold in 2011 in order to focus on lecturing in rental law, which he continues to this day.

Carrfield is able to draw on a pool of highly skilled and knowledgeable industry professionals, covering all aspects of the property sector, to work under its umbrella.

In 2014, responding to strong demand in the property market, Carrfield developed an asset management service for residential and commercial property owners, combining in-depth technical knowledge covering all property matters including legal requirements, with a friendly, personal approach. Carrfield has now expanded this service to corporate clients. The company’s focus is to identify ‘added value’ in existing or distressed property portfolios, or offer help and advice to those wishing to build one. Our team of professionals has established a reputation in the industry for its expertise and friendly, helpful approach.

The Consultants on board are:


Toby Carrington: Toby has worked in the real estate business for the past 31 years and is ARLA qualified. His passion is technical property work and managing property portfolios. He has a reputation for having excellent communication skills and this is backed up by continual feed-back from corporate clients, delegates, landlords, councils past and present.

Attention to detail is a key part of working in sales and residential lettings. Toby is very thorough about where the quality of the information comes from before he imparts it. As a trainer it is essential to answer questions on a given subject and also to be able to offer advice on company procedures whilst carrying out compliance checks. He achieves this by continually reading and attending courses regarding up-to-date legislation. Therefore, the combination of his experience, vocational skills and professional qualifications enables him to deliver a quality service at whatever level.

Alison Field: Having graduated from Sheffield University, she spent her first few years gaining hands-on experience working on capital projects within the Leisure industry makes her very well suited to the position of providing a financial overview on properties. Alison uses her experience to implement feasibility studies, business plans and marketing strategies. These skills were further enhanced when she worked for the public sector in the southeast and during her time at Sport England and the New Opportunities Fund.

In recent years, she has focused her attention on residential property and financial management, including commercial premises. Budget management, payroll, VAT, profit and loss reporting have all been an essential part many of the project work she has been involved in. Throughout her career, she has been able to work comfortably in a team situation or alone. She is very self-motivated, with a keen eye to detail. Alison has an energy that drives her to work out solutions to problems and she enjoys working to dead-lines. This means she is prepared to take responsibility for all her work and will use relevant material to back up any conclusions or recommendations. She is comfortable to draw on the resources around her to help her to deliver a quality, pragmatic service with a strategic outcome.

Barry Hough: Barry’s expertise lies in the commercial property sector and he has been in the property industry for over 40 years. In 1983 he started to focus on commercial property due to demand and personal preference. It is during this time that he developed a wealth of experience covering all aspects of commercial property for private clients, property companies and institutions. He has also worked with several large chartered surveyors firms in the south east including Stiles Harold Williams, Parsons Son & Basley and Michael Parkes.

Barry’s years of experience include Landlord and Tenant work including lease renewals, rent reviews, arbitrations and expert witness reports. He is also proficient in dealing in land acquisition and new developments as well as investment sales. After almost a decade of managing the commercial department at Parsons Son and Basley in Brighton, he left in April 2014 to set up his own practice as a property consultant working with a number of private clients in property and asset management, acquisitions and disposals. With his wealth of experience, he is able to address most situations with utmost competence and professionalism.

Block management it is Carrfield ‘s belief that quality block management should only be covered by fully trained, experienced, ARMA trained, local block managers who have a local team of tradesmen to ensure proper maintenance, proper due diligence and rent collection.

RICS qualified surveyor who covers the South East. The chosen consultant has worked in the industry for 30 years and is fully conversant with both commercial and residential buildings.

Health and safety auditors who are fully up to speed with legislation and can asses quickly on what needs to be done to ensure that a property is compliant to government and insurance requirements. The consultants are accredited by IOSH, NEBOSH, and CIEH Fire risk assessment team are available to report on whether a building falls within the requirements of landlords responsibilities. The consultant has a proven fire safety background.

Estate and land management: valuations and advice can be offered by RICS trained consultants who are experienced in both agricultural and estate management. They work primarily in the south east so they have an extensive list of comparables and have worked for a wide range of landowners and trusts.

Insurance expertise is on hand to cover block management, commercial, vacant and residential properties. Carrfield only use consultants that are fully regulated by the financial conduct authority.

Adjudication service (qualified by TDS) is on offer to “trouble shoot” issues between landlords and tenants and it is an invaluable process which can be utilised to resolve issues and enable a resolution to be achieved within a fair and controlled environment.
